I think it's safe to say that most members of our team are fans of the Delaware heavy metal band Awake at Last. In particular, their song "Bigger Picture" has resonated with us lately. While we are largely a technology-based firm, we readily acknowledge the pitfalls of modern technology.
The impersonal human disconnect inherent to the modern proliferation of mobile devices is a well-known concept, but few have put it into as comprehensive a context as Awake at Last have with this song. The lyrics speak of an expansive human tapestry of which we each are a part, and hold it up to the mirror of the technological duality of modern mobile devices. Yes, these devices connect us, but they can also isolate and divide us.
Instant, world-wide communication has been a boon to humanity in many ways. That is not in dispute. But in this world of inhumanity and division, we would like to remind everyone to put down the device, look around, and enjoy the real world. The online world is full of useful information and truth, but today's proliferation of fake news means that what's on that screen isn't always accurate.
Don't be afraid to go out and take in your surroundings. The real world is a beautiful place!
