The only memories I have of my mother and father are watching them on old VHS videos with my Gramma. They were taken from me before I was old enough to understand anything. I like to imagine they watch over me even if there isn't much they can do from where they are. I'm sure they loved me. But when mother's day comes around, there is one woman who I have known all my life who has been there for me in that role. That woman is my Gramma.
A mother herself, she gave birth and raised my mother. She had no time to grieve her daughter as she was immediately in charge of this new infant, me. This mother's day, it is her who I celebrate, the woman who stepped up and became a mother yet again.
Not everyone has their mother. Not everyone had a mother. On mother's day, don't forget to celebrate those who step up to be Mom, or even Dad, when moms and dads can't.
